Parent Child Assistance Program (PCAP)

The Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) Initiative – a program that provides mentoring to a woman over a three-year span – falls within Alberta’s FASD prevention strategies.

This program offers specialized services and programming for pregnant women who may have substance abuse issues, women who have been diagnosed by physicians or are suspected of having FASD, or women who have given birth to children diagnosed with FASD and are capable of giving birth to more children. The South Alberta FASD Network provides funding to employ a Home Visitation Advocate (0.6 FTE), who supports prevention efforts and increases service capacity in the Parent-Child Assistance Program (PCAP) component of the First Steps program.
